Agenda

The safety of children and education personnel at Armenia’s public schools are of paramount importance. In addition, the optimal use of resources, such as energy, water, and materials, are part of Armenia’s legislation and government’s strategies. The Government of Armenia is exploring the possibility of securing loans from international financial institutions for renovating and building new school facilities throughout the country. This offers Armenia an opportunity to initiate discussions on what these facilities should offer to meet the needs of our children’s education in the 21st century.

The Ministry of Urban Development of the RA, United Nations Children’s Fund in Armenia (UNICEF) and the American University of Armenia (AUA) would like to invite you to participate in a roundtable discussion on Inclusive and Resilient Schools: Schoolhouses for Armenia’s Children in the 21st Century. Such a discussion is timely as it will help Armenia understand steps needed to meet its legislative obligations with respect to social inclusiveness, seismic safety, and resource efficiency.

Armenia’s recent successes in designing and building a few high-profile school facilities that incorporate world best practices in environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive design, indicate a growing in-country capacity to do such work. Our collective reflection and thinking about these accomplishments may help us take them to scale, with nationwide impact.

Expected distinguished guests: Ministers, NGO representatives, International organization representatives, Educational Institution Representatives
