In accepting a scholarship from Regent’s University London, you will be required to sign up to the Scholars’ Charter. The Regent’s Scholars’ Charter sets out both the academic standards to which you must adhere and sets out the ambassadorial role you will take in order to positively raise the University’s profile.The Dean of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences Excellence Scholarship cannot be transferred to another undergraduate programme.

In order to maintain the scholarship for the full duration of your studies, you must pass each module at the first attempt with a mark of at least 60%.

This scholarship is awarded through competition.

To enter the competition for the 2018/19 Dean of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences Excellence Scholarship , you should achieve at least three Bs at A level (or the international equivalent) and follow the guidance for your chosen subject below:

Fashion & Design

BA (Hons) Fashion Design, BA (Hons) Fashion Design with Marketing and BA (Hons) Interior Design applicants

  • Submit a portfolio of art and design work (electronically, if possible), including research and sketchbook material
  • Explain in 300 words why you wish to study fashion and design at Regent’s University London

BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing applicants

  • Research and write a critical and analytical essay of 1,000 words on the following topic:

Choose a luxury fashion brand. Explore how they have used modern technology to market fashion.

  • Explain in 300 words why you wish to study fashion marketing at Regent’s University London

Film, Media & Performance

BA (Hons) Acting & World Theatre applicants

  • Research and write a critical and analytical essay of 1,000 words on the following topic:

Theatre is a meeting point, a crossroads of cultures.’ Discuss the validity of this statement, referring to specific practitioners or theatre practices.

  • Explain in 300 words why you wish to study acting and world theatre at Regent’s University London

BA (Hons) Film, TV & Digital Media Production applicants

  • Write a 1,000 word treatment for a new television project – fiction, documentary or light entertainment
  • Explain in 300 words why you wish to study film, TV and digital media production at Regent’s University London

BA (Hons) Screenwriting & Producing applicants

  • Write a five-page script on a subject of your own choosing. Make sure the story is concluded so that your piece is not just the opening for a longer project
  • Explain in 300 words why you wish to study screenwriting and producing at Regent’s University London

Liberal Arts & Humanities

BA Liberal Studies applicants

  • Research and write a critical and analytical essay of 1,000 words on the following topic:

What are the benefits of a liberal arts education?

  • Explain in 300 words why you wish to study liberal arts at Regent’s University London

You must submit your application and be holding an offer from Regent’s University London by 17:00 (UK time) on the closing date of 31 May 2018. Late entries will not be accepted.

If shortlisted, you will be invited to interview (face-to-face or Skype) to:

  • Make a presentation on your written submission
  • Answer questions on your presentation and your written submission
  • Be interviewed on your general knowledge, interpersonal skills and ability to present yourself

Many applicants will not have received the results of their secondary school qualifications by May. Where this is the case, we will offer you a conditional scholarship, based on your predicted grades, and operate a waiting list from June onwards. Final decisions and unconditional scholarship offers will be made in August, following the publication of exam results.

Judging the competition

In all categories, the panel of judges will be looking for students who submit their own independent work and show particular skill in communicating their ideas effectively. Students are encouraged to proof-read their work before submitting it.The winning entry will be interesting and thought-provoking, and should not exceed eight double-spaced pages in length. Your entry and supporting documents will be used to determine the shortlist.
