Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship is a four-year, full-tuition award, the recipients of which represent some of the most exemplary student leaders on Saint Louis University's campus. Presidential Scholars are eligible to apply for additional funding (up to $1,200) in support of an Investigative Learning Experience (ILEX), which may take the form of a research venture, service project, internship, or other co-curricular endeavor.

Presidential Scholarship Eligibility

Students who meet the following minimum requirements are invited to fill out a separate application for Presidential Scholarship candidacy:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher, weighted or unweighted, as reported on the students high school transcript at the close of junior year
  • Official test score of at least 30 on the ACT or SAT of at least 1330 (math+critical reading)

Only those students who meet these requirements will be considered eligible for candidacy. These criteria are used only for determining eligibility and do not guarantee that the student will be selected either for further competition or as a Presidential Scholarship recipient. Upon review of the applicants, a select group of students will be invited to Saint Louis University's campus in January or February to interview and compete for the Presidential Scholarship.

Students who apply for the Presidential Scholarship should do so under the assumption that, if awarded, the scholarship will replace any offer for merit-based scholarship previously made by the university. Please note that the Jesuit High School Award cannot be combined with the Presidential Scholarship.

Presidential Scholarship Application Requirements

To apply for Presidential Scholarship candidacy, students meeting the initial eligibility requirements must:

  • Submit all components of the Saint Louis University Application for Freshman Admission, including official high school transcript and official ACT or SAT test scores, by Dec. 1.
  • Submit a completed Saint Louis University Presidential Scholarship Application, including scholarship essay, resume and two letters of recommendation by Dec. 1.

The Presidential Scholarship Application must be submitted online.  We encourage you to plan ahead when submitting your application. Please consider the essay questions before and prepare your answers as you will not be able to save and return to the application once you start it. Applicants will receive an e-mail confirmation upon submission of their application. Please contact the Office of Admission if you did not receive a confirmation email.

Test scores from either ACT or SAT may serve as qualifiers for Presidential Scholarship candidacy. Students who anticipate achieving a qualifying test score during a December test date must still submit a completed Presidential Scholarship Application by Dec. 1.  Presidential Scholarship applicants who adhere to this deadline and achieve a qualifying test score in the month of December will still be given consideration for Presidential Scholarship candidacy.

Presidential Scholarship applicants must submit a scholarship essay, resume detailing extra-curricular activities, leadership, service and employment experience as well as two letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should provide specific insight into the applicant's personality and/or distinguishing characteristics. Any letters of recommendation previously submitted to the Office of Admission will fulfill this requirement

Applicants must submit their scholarship essay and resume online with their Presidential Scholarship Application. The scholarship essay must be a written response of no more than approximately 500 words to the Presidential Scholarship essay topic listed below:
