Postdoctoral Research at IIASA

Every year IIASA provides full funding for several postdoctoral researchers. Scholars are expected to conduct their own research in collaboration with one or more of IIASA's research programs or special projects in an interdisciplinary way. Postdoctoral positions, up to 2 years duration, should best be started between October and January.

Application

Candidates are required to develop and submit a research proposal that interfaces their own research interests with the research agenda of one of the various activities pursued at IIASA; in order to find the program suitable for your research please view our research page.

Qualifications and first contact

  • candidates should have held their doctoral degree for less than 5 years at the application deadline;
  • IIASA does not do lab-type research and as such does not provide any onsite lab-type facilities;
  • the IIASA Post Doc fellowship requires you to be present at IIASA; if you need to stay away from the institute to do your research, or expect IIASA to fund field research overseas please do not apply.

Once a proposal has been formulated we encourage communication with the relevant program representatives. We suggest to look at the pdf version of the application form, frame the proposed research according to the questions there, and then send an introductory e-mail. This level of personal interaction is vital not only to discuss research ideas and ascertain their relevance to IIASA’s scientific agenda but it also allows much more realistic formulation of research plans and expectations on the part of both IIASA and the applicant.

Please note: Applications are open now and are running until 1 October!
