The Clayman Institute offers a two-year postdoctoral fellowship that focuses on the Institute's theme, "Beyond the Stalled Revolution: Reinvigorating Gender Equality in the Twenty-first Century." Recent Ph.D.'s in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences whose research focuses on gender are eligible. We encourage scholars with a strong interest in interdisciplinary methods to apply. While in residence at the Institute, Postdoctoral Scholars are expected to participate in Clayman Institute activities throughout the academic year in addition to pursuing their own research.  Applications are accepted starting October 1, 2016 through January 5, 2017.

The Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years. Recent Ph.D.'s in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences whose research focuses on gender are eligible. We encourage scholars with a strong interest in interdisciplinary methods to apply. The postdoctoral scholars will focus on the Institute's theme, "Beyond the Stalled Revolution: Reinvigorating Gender Equality in the Twenty-first Century.”

While in residence at the Institute, postdoctoral scholars are expected to participate in Clayman Institute activities throughout the academic year in addition to pursuing their own research.

Postdoctoral scholar responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Writing articles for our research publication, Gender News.
  2. Working with Graduate Dissertation Fellows.
  3. Participating in our leadership program for graduate students.
  4. Attending our regularly scheduled faculty luncheon discussions.

50% percent of the postdoctoral scholars' time is dedicated to her or his own research.

QUALIFICATIONS

The appointment is for two years. Applicants must have their doctoral degree in hand no later than 30 days prior to the appointment start date, and the start date must be no more than three years after the awarding of their degree. Postdoctoral scholars will receive a stipend and benefits, set and adjusted in accordance with Stanford University rules, and must be in residence for eight academic quarters, beginning in the fall quarter of the 2017-18 academic year. To apply for the Clayman Institute postdoctoral fellowship, please upload the application documents in this order:

1. In 500 words or less, explain your general interest in becoming a postdoctoral fellow at the Clayman Institute and describe how your research interests can shed new light on our thematic focus: "Beyond the Stalled Revolution: Reinvigorating Gender Equality in the Twenty-first Century."

2. In 300 words or less, select a gender-focused current event and, using research, formulate an opinion piece. Make an argument for the way the general public should think about the event or issue you selected. The successful candidate will adhere to the 300 word maximum. Paragraphs must be single-spaced. At the top of your opinion piece list only your initials, university and degree discipline.

3. In 1000 words or less, single-spaced and including all notes and bibliography, provide an abstract that summarizes your dissertation.

4. Provide a curriculum vitae of no more than 5 pages.

5. Two letters of recommendation. Confidential letters of recommendation are submitted via Interfolio. Do not submit more than two letters of recommendation. Only the first two letters submitted will be considered.

Deadline for applications is January 5, 2017 at 9 pm PST (midnight EST). Note that you will not be able to add documents to your application after the deadline. To keep the application process equitable, we are unable to make exceptions to this deadline.
