Job description 

Application is sought for a post-doctoral position (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter/in) in the DFG-Project „Fashion and Styles in African Cities. Case Studies from Douala and Lagos" at the LMU Institute for Art History. The project will study the interrelationships between fashion and urbanity using the example of Douala and Lagos. Four case studies, led by Prof. Dr. Kerstin Pinther (LMU), Prof. Dr. Frank Ugiomoh (University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria) und Dr. Basile Ndjio (University of Douala, Kamerun) focus on aesthetics and symbolic aspects of fashion and style and its contextualization as well as medial presentation. In keeping with a spatial turn we inquire into the places of fashion. The postdoc position is sought for the research project on Douala. It deals with the history, aesthetic and fashion practices in Douala.

Prerequisites 

We offer one post-doctoral position of two years starting as soon as possible. After a positive evaluation, the contract can be extended with one more year (a total of three years maximum). The starting salary is in accordance with the requirement of the LMU and depends on the relevant research experience. You will have an excellent PhD in History of Art, Art Anthropology, African Studies, Textile and Fashion Studies, preferably with research experience in Africa. You are fluent in English and French; you have German language skills (B 1). Working space, working tools and a travel budget will be provided. Applications by researchers with handicap will be considered with priority under equal conditions. We welcome applications from female candidates. This is a full-time position. The possibility of part-time and flexible working hours will be considered.
