Positions as Associate Professor in Educational Leadership

A permanent positions as Associate Professor (SKO 1011) in Educational Leadership is available at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research (ILS).

The position is linked to the master program in Educational Leadership, which is offered as a part-time program and qualifies for leadership and development positions in the educational sector. The master program is taught in Norwegian and covers 120 ECTS, equivalent to two years full time study, cf.http://www.uv.uio.no/ils/english/studies/programmes/master/ The position may also include teaching in the teacher education programs offered by ILS and in-service-education for school leaders.

The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the department’s research through participation in one of the two research groups; Curriculum Studies, Leadership and Educational Governance (CLEG) and Teacher Professionalism and Educational Change; Practices, Purposes, Policies (TEPEC).

 Job description

  • Promote the development of the subject area through research, publication of academic work nationally and internationally, and participation in national and international networks. Active participation in relevant research groups at the Faculty is required.
  • Participate in planning, teaching and supervision in the master program in Educational Leadership and maintain the educational quality of the program, as well as teaching research methodology at Master’s and PhD level .
    Teaching in the teacher education programs may become part of the job description.
  • Research dissemination targeted at both professional actors and the general public.
  • Administrative tasks in accordance with the applicable provisions.

Qualifications

  • The applicant must be able to document research competence linked to the advertised subject area. The minimum competence requirement for the position of an Associate Professor is a PhD relevant for Educational Leadership.
  • Scientific papers and relevant expertise in the field of education, curriculum studies, educational leadership and educational governance.
  • Documented knowledge of and familiarity with the Norwegian or Scandinavian educational systems.
  • Basic teaching competence.
  • Personal suitability and motivation.

In the ranking of competent applicants, the whole range of qualifications will be considered, including the applicant’s ability to communicate and personal suitability. Emphasis will also be placed on the applicant’s experience and ability to attract research funding from external sources.

Applicants who on appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of basic teaching competence must acquire such competence in the course of a period of two years. Applicants who are not competent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish must acquire such competence within two years subsequent to their appointment.
