PhD scholarship in Advanced neutron imaging of energy devices in 2D and 3D
The section for Imaging and Structural Analysis (ISA) in the Department of Energy Conversion and Storage at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Energy) is seeking a candidate for a Ph.D. position on advanced neutron imaging of energy devices in 2D and 3D.
The project combines the high penetration depth of the neutron with diffraction effects, so a relatively good time and spatial resolution can be achieved for imaging of real energy devices under operating conditions where microstructure, chemical phases and for instance mechanical strain can be imaged and analysed simultaneously.
DTU Energy is together with the European Spallation Source, ESS, among the pioneers of advanced neutron imaging of energy devices.
DTU Energy is among the world’s leaders in the research and development of a broad variety of energy conversion and storage technologies. DTU Energy has cutting edge facilities and competences for fabrication, testing and characterisation of energy conversion and storage devices.
The project will be conducted in close collaboration with DTU Physics and ESS.DTU Physics is pioneering multi-scale characterization of materials utilizing neutron, X-ray and electron modalities.
ESS, the brightest neutron source worldwide, is currently constructed including the maybe most advanced neutron imaging station, based on leading ESS neutron imaging expertise.
The workplace will mainly be at DTU Energy, Risø campus. The candidate is expected to spend time atDTU Physics and ESS in Lund as well as taking part in measurements at several international large scale neutron facilities for instance in Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Japan.
