The DIW Graduate Center welcomes applications from highly qualified and motivated postgraduate students from around the world.
Applications for this year are now closed. The application for next year will go online in January 2016.
Applicant must hold a Master’s degree or diploma in economics. Degrees from other related fields (such as civil engineering, statistics or quantitative social sciences) may also fulfill the requirements for the program if the applicant has a sufficient background in economics. Applicants, who only hold a Bachelor's degree, can be accepted into the GC if they are enrolled in a fast-track PhD (combination of Master and PhD)or if they can document completed coursework at a Master’s level. Eligibility of these candidates will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency unless they hold a degree from a university in an English-speaking country, studied at least one semester at an English speaking university (with credentials), or can prove that the majority of courses during their Master's studies were taught in English. - Sufficient evidence for a good command of English is a high score in the "Test of English as a Foreign Language" (TOEFL) or the "International English Language Testing System" (IELTS).
A GRE test is required for all applicants who did not graduate from a European(EEA), US American, Canadian, Australian, or New Zealand university.
The application for admission must include:
- the completed online application form (link below);
- the completed application form (see sidebar Downloads);
- the applicant’s statement of objectives;
The statement of objectives should state the applicant's motivation for participating in the program and give a short outline of his/her major research interests. The statement should be no longer than 2 pages.
- a detailed curriculum vitae (without photograph);
- a recent photograph
- copies of academic transcripts and other certificates;
- two academic letters of recommendation (see downloads);
- a TOEFL/IELTS-test if required (see requirements above);
- a GRE-test if required (see requirements above).
Please submit your application in English.
Applications are only accepted online.
We follow a two-stages selection procedure: a paper-based pre-selection of candidates, and personal interviews at DIW Berlin. Decisions regarding admission are taken by the Recruiting and Evaluation Committee of the Graduate Center, which bases its assessment on the quality of applications submitted and on the research objectives stated.
