Rokos Junior Research Fellowship in Development Economics

PEMBROKE COLLEGE

Pembroke College wishes to appoint a Rokos Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in Development Economics from 1 September 2017 for three years. While the field of study is open, preference will be given to candidates specialising in microeconomics of development, particularly on sub-Saharan Africa.

The Rokos JRF in Development Economics will be expected to conduct original research in their chosen field and will enjoy the freedom and facilities to develop a research portfolio, so strengthening their position in the academic job market. They will also be expected to contribute to the development of Economics and the interests of Economics students at Pembroke College. Optionally, and by agreement with the Fellow in Economics, they may provide undergraduate teaching, participate in admissions and supervise undergraduate dissertations. The successful candidate will be also be associated with the Centre for the Study of African Economies at the Department of Economics and the Oxford Department of International Development, both of which fall under the Social Sciences Division at the University of Oxford.

pplicants should either have completed their PhD or be close to completion (and will need to have submitted their doctorate before taking up the fellowship) and preference will be given to applicants who have not already held a postdoctoral fellowship, JRF or tenured academic post. Selection criteria will be based on the candidate’s overall academic record, quality and achievement of research, research plans, academic fit with the college fellowship and suitability for an academic career.

  • A letter of application explaining why you wish to be considered for this position;
  • A curriculum vitae setting out details of your higher education, research and any publications to date;
  • A 1,000 word research proposal; and
  • The names, positions, postal addresses and email addresses of three academic referees. The referees will only be contacted to request a reference if your application is shortlisted.

The stipend for the role is £32,000 p.a., which includes a housing allowance of £7,200. College accommodation may be available in lieu of the housing allowance if the successful candidate wishes to live in college. The successful candidate will also be entitled to a research allowance of £1,545 p.a. (at the discretion of the college) and all lunches and dinners when the college kitchens are open. N.B. The stipend and allowances are based on 2016-17 rates and may be revised for 2017-18 and subsequent years.
