MIT-Zaragoza Master Essay Competition in Spain, 2016-2017

Presentation and objectives

As in previous years, Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) is organizing the Master Essay Competition 2016 - 2017, open to all the Spanish candidates who have been admitted to the Master of Engineering in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program 2016 - 2017. The ZLC Master Essay Competition gives our Spanish candidates, from diverse educational backgrounds, a unique platform from where to express their knowledge and views about Supply Chain Management and its future development. ZLC mission is to create an international center of excellence for research and education in Logistics and Supply Chain Management that actively engages with industry and the public sector to develop and disseminate knowledge. Thereby ZLC provides a unique opportunity for Spanish citizens to develop the skills necessary to lead the growth of the logistic sector in Spain.

Coverage

The competition has one award consisting of 100% reduction in tuition for the ZLOG program, which currently amounts to € 24,000. The scholarship will not include other costs such as the administrative fee, living or travel expenses to Zaragoza or to Boston for the international exchange.

Eligibility

Scholarships are awarded only to Spanish candidates who have been admitted to the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program through ZLC‘s regular admissions procedure.

 

Application Materials

1. Essay

The essay is expected to be engaging and easy to read. At the same time, its findings must be based on verifiable quality research, data, solid arguments and factual content, in order to meet high quality standards and ZLC criteria. 2 Contributors are encouraged to provide aspects and perspectives which enrich the suggested topic. Last year the topic was the following:

“Big Data Utilization in Logistics and Supply Chains Design and Management: Opportunities, Challenges and Difficulties”

The Topic for academic year 2016 – 2017 will be published in 2016.

Formal aspects

Candidates must submit one original essay with the following requirements:

 Essay must be written in English and be the original, unpublished work of the author and not infringe any copyright.  Only one essay may be submitted by each candidate.

 Each essay must include a title page, not considered text, with the following information: essay title, author's name, full contact details and total number of pages.

 Referencing should be used as needed, allowing for consistent fact-checking, without compromising the readability of the essay.

 Participation implies acceptance to be bound by the above terms and conditions. Failure to comply with the above terms and conditions may result in the disqualification of the candidates

 Essays not fulfilling with the above requirements will not be considered.

Copy of the acceptance letter to the MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) program.

Deadline

The submission deadline for the Master Essay Competition is June 30th 2016. However, early application is encouraged. All supporting documentation to the application must be postmarked by the deadline of the scholarship. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

Selection criteria and process

Competition for the ZLC Master Essay is intense and highly competitive. The Essay will be chosen on the basis of the following criteria:  Knowledge of the subject (50%)  Essay structure, use of language and grammar (25%)  Supporting information and academic referencing (25%) Candidates will be notified by e-mail of the outcome. The winner will receive an award letter.

General conditions

ZLC reserves the right to withdraw the award if the conditions are not met. Successful candidate will be expected to participate in promotional activities. ZLC reserves the right to use the names, photographs and recordings of him/her on the website and for any other publicity. Any personal information held will be used in accordance with Data Protection legislation. This scholarship is non accumulative with other grants of ZLC, except for the Basel ZLOG Alumni Scholarship.
