The University of Gothenburg is administrating four types of scholarships intended for fee-paying applicants, who applied for Master's Programmes at the University of Gothenburg.

The University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship

The University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship is funded by the Swedish Council for Higher Education. It is intended for fee-paying applicants who have applied through universityadmissions.se for a Master's Programme offered by the University of Gothenburg, with a last application date of 15 January 2016.

  • The Study Scholarship covers the tuition fee for a Master’s Programme at the University of Gothenburg.

NEW: Scholarships from the Adlerbert Scholarship Foundation

When applying for the University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship, one can now also apply for additional scholarships. These scholarships are funded by the Adlerbert Scholarship Foundation and are intended for the same applicants as for the University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship.

The Adlerbert Scholarship Foundation announces three new types of scholarships;

  • A complementary scholarship to all the scholarship applicants who are granted the University of Gothenburg Study Scholarship from the academic year 16/17, that covers accommodation expenses.
  • A scholarship that covers the tuition fee for a Master’s Programme at the University of Gothenburg and accommodation expenses.
  • A scholarship specifically intended for applicants who are citizens of an annual prioritized country from the OECD/DAC list, that covers the tuition fee for a Master’s Programme at the University of Gothenburg, living and accommodation expenses.

How to apply

Required documents

When submitting your scholarship application, the following documents must be included:

  • Application Form
  • Copy of valid passport.
  • CV, with an overview of academic records and experiences of organizational and/or professional life.
  • Letter of motivation, with focus on academic achievements and academic and organizational and/or professional aims and ambitions (approx. 500 words).

Please note that your academic qualifications must be submitted to University Admissions in Sweden along with your other supporting documents for the programme which you have applied for, according to the instructions at universityadmissions.se.

The University of Gothenburg will have automatic access to your academic qualifications – we kindly ask you not to attach them to your scholarship application. Only the documents described above must be submitted. 

Filling out the application form

When filling out the application form, please check the boxes for all the scholarships you would like to apply for.

It is also very important that you state the correct application number received when creating a user account at universityadmissions.se. If this is not stated on the scholarship application form, it will not be possible to identify your scholarship application.

You can type directly into the application form. When this has been done, please print it, sign it and scan the document.

Attach the scholarship application form along with the other required documents listed above, to an e-mail and send it to internationalstudent@gu.se.

The scholarship application must reach the University of Gothenburg no later than February 13 at midnight CET.

Selection procedure

To be eligible for the scholarship selection process, you must meet the entry requirements and be admitted to the Master's programme at the University of Gothenburg which you have applied for, starting autumn semester 2016. Scholarships are offered to applicants demonstrating a high level of academic performance. The selection process consists of an assessment made by academic and administrative staff at the University of Gothenburg.

If you have applied to the University of Gothenburg as your first choice, you will be given priority.

The selection process is administered during early spring, i.e. during the same period of time that the applications for programme studies are processed. Notifications are sent out via e-mail around the same time as the admission notifications are distributed.

Scholarship offers are only valid for studies starting in the semester for which you have applied. It is not possible to defer an offer.

Please note that fee-paying applicants who have been offered a scholarship from the Swedish Institute are not eligible for the scholarship.
