Foundations/Advanced Summer School Courses on DSGE Modelling 30th August – 3rd September 2016
Centre for International Macroeconomic Studies, University of Surrey, UK
Registration is now open for two summer school courses in DSGE modelling at the University of Surrey. Between them, these two courses cater for people of all levels of knowledge, from brand new PhD students up to experienced researchers. We have the two courses running in parallel for 4 days:
* ‘Foundations of DSGE Modelling’ introduces people to DSGE modelling, and the use of Dynare. This is an ideal course for early stage researchers, to ensure they have the essential tools needed to perform serious macroeconomic research of policy work. (Instructors: Paul Levine, Cristiano Cantore, Vasco Gabriel, Bo Yang)
* ‘Advanced Topics in DSGE Modelling’ covers topics including advanced Dynare usage, non-linear estimation (including particle filters, cubature filters, GMM and Empirical Likelihood methods), advanced MATLAB programming, the theory of dynamic programming, global numerical solution methods and techniques for solving heterogeneous agent models. (Instructors: Tom Holden, Antonio Mele, Szabolcs Deak)
On day 5 participants from both streams can choose a one day advanced course option from:
* Financial frictions (Instructors: Paul Levine, Cristiano Cantore)
* Forecasting (Instructors: Bo Yang, Filippo Ferroni)
* Occasionally binding constraints (Instructors: Tom Holden, Jonathan Swarbrick)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for admission to theFoundations course applicants must have:
- A background in economics
- A working knowledge of English
- A basic knowledge of the RBC and NK Model
To be considered for admission to theAdvanced course, applicants must have:
- A strong knowledge of DSGE modelling.

Applicants who have attended previous courses by CIMS will be particularly welcome to apply for the advanced course.
DEADLINE AND ADMISSION PROCESS
To be considered for admission to the course applicants must have:
- A background in macroeconomics with some knowledge of modelling and dynamic optimization.
- A working knowledge of English.
The deadline for application is 15th July 2016, but we do encourage interested people to apply as soon as possible as the places will be allocated using a rolling selection process. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email offering you a place and applicants will have 2 weeks to pay the full fees balance to secure their place.
