Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München will award up to 10 Research Fellowships to excellent junior academics in 2016.

The "LMU Research Fellowships" are an integral part of the "LMU Academic Career Program" - http://www.en.uni-muenchen.de/about_lmu_alt/excellence_initiative/institutional_strategy/junior_academics/academic_career/index.html, aimed at recruiting excellent early-career postdocs. Candidates from all fields of research who have completed their doctoral studies with outstanding results within the last three years may apply. The Fellowships will be awarded for two years. In exceptional cases, funding for an extra year will be awarded to projects for which additional research time is needed due to the scope and originality of the planned research.

Candidates must present an independent research project as part of their application. Applications may be submitted in English or German. Questions regarding academic integration and the application process should be directed to CAS at the email address below. 
The fellows will become members of the CAS Young Center - http://www.en.cas.uni-muenchen.de/index.html and be able to make use of its services.

Fellowship applications will need to include a support statement by an LMU professor who will function as mentor during the fellowship and who must secure 50% of the personnel costs of the fellowship position. It should not exceed two pages and must include an explicit statement by the support professor to the effect that he or she will provide academic, financial and infrastructural support for the project (including the provision of a workplace) 

Research fellows will receive an attractive salary according to the German "Tarifvertrag der Länder (TV-L)" (typically TV-L grade E 14). During the Fellowship material and travel expenses of up to € 10.000 p.a. and an additional start-up grant of up to € 25.000 may be provided. .
