Post-doctoral Research Fellowship at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden 2019, Germany

Publish Date: Apr 08, 2019

Deadline: Apr 30, 2019

Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW)

The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden – in short IFW Dresden – is a non-university research institute and a member of the Leibniz Association. The IFW employs approximately 600 people and one focus is on the training of young scientists besides enhancing fundamental and applied research development. At the highest international level, the IFW operates modern materials science on a scientific basis and makes the obtained results useful for the economy. The complex and interdisciplinary research work is carried out within the IFW by five scientific institutes, which are supported by a highly developed technical infrastructure.

The IFW supports its employees in reconciling work and family life and regularly submits to the berufundfamilie® audit.

The Institute for Solid State Research at the IFW Dresden offers in the field of Surface Dynamics a position as Post-doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) starting as soon as possible.

We are considering applicants (m/f/d) who have a PhD in physics, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering as well as very good knowledge and experience in the fields of:

  • fluid  mechanics, microfluidics
  • microacoustics or MEMS, especially surface acoustic  wave (SAW) technology
  • radio  frequency measurement technology
  • simulations based on MATLAB, COMSOL or similar

We expect good communication skills in written and spoken English. Professional working style as well as capacity for teamwork and personal motivation are required.

The work comprises experimental and theoretical investigations on SAW-based actuators to get deeper understanding of mechanisms and effects governing two-dimensional focusing of particles as well as heating in microfluidic setups. The project enables a very good entry into the field of acoustically driven microfluidics. In addition, the skills and equipment of the working group provide very good conditions for further scientific profiling.

For further information please contact Dr. Hagen Schmidt (h.schmidt(at)ifw-dresden.de).

The employment contract can start as soon as possible and will end latest after three years. The salary is based upon the TV-L rules (EG 13; part-time or full time 100% for Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)).

The IFW would like to increase the proportion of women in science. Qualified women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Severely disabled applicants (m/f/d) are given preferential treatment if they have the same qualifications.
