China Public Policy Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School will offer two postdoctoral fellowships in the field of contemporary Chinese public policy to recent Ph.D. graduates of exceptional promise.

Eligibility

Applicants must have received their Ph.D. within five years of the start of the fellowship in a relevant discipline in the social sciences or history. Preference will be given to those working in the areas of domestic politics, political economy, business-government relations, state-society relations, and social development of China, with a focus on public policy challenges.

Residence in the Cambridge area and participation in the activities of the Center are required. It is expected that the successful applicant will give at least one research presentation or public talk during the fellowship period. Foreign nationals must be eligible for J-1 visa sponsorship.

Knowledge of Chinese is required, as well as the ability to work with original sources.

Those who are chosen to receive fellowships must have completed ALL requirements for the Ph.D. degree (including the dissertation defense) by June 1, 2017. Preference will be given to applicants with no previous postdoctoral fellowships.

Benefits

Each fellowship will run for a period of up to two years. The recipient will receive an annual stipend of $50,000, health insurance, and work space. Some research/travel funds may also be available.

The next fellowship will begin August 1, 2017.

Email the completed form, research proposal, writing samples and a current CV by January 6, 2017 to Ash_Fellowships@hks.harvard.edu with “Postdoctoral Fellowships in China Public Policy” in the SUBJECT line. Recommendation letters should be emailed directly to the Ash Center from the referees.
