Swedish Arts Council is allocating funds for work-related travel and skill improvement activities for translators of Swedish literature and drama.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Professional translators of Swedish literature and drama may apply for these grants. Swedish literature means literature that is written in Swedish, or any of the national minority languages, and published in Sweden.

WHO CANNOT APPLY?

Translators of literature from other languages into Swedish, as well as organisations, publishers or networks.

WHAT CAN BE APPLIED FOR?

Grants are available to fund work-related activities such as participating in projects or events, including festivals, conferences, seminars, exhibitions and workshops. Grants are also available for travel expenses relating to work on a particular translation.

GROUNDS FOR ALLOCATION OF FUNDING

The Swedish Arts Council awards funding for international exchange in the literary field.

The Swedish Arts Council allocates grants for Swedish literature in translation and project funding for the international promotion of Swedish literature and drama, as set out in Regulation (2007:1435) on state funding for international exchange and collaborations in the literary field.

The purpose of the grants is to develop the expertise of translators translating from Swedish, in order to improve the quality of translations of Swedish literature and drama, and to increase international exchange in the literary field.

APPLICATIONS

Grants can be applied for four times a year. The Swedish Arts Council sets the final deadline for applications. Applications that are received outside the application period or after the application deadline will not be processed.
The application must be made in good time before the date of departure/the event. Decisions are announced around four weeks after the application deadline.

Grants are not awarded for travel, events and activities that have already taken place.

The application must contain a description of what the application concerns and an up-to-date CV. If the application concerns work-related travel, the date of the travel and a detailed budget must be provided.

Please note that applications received by the Swedish Arts Council after 24.00 on the last application date will be evaluated the next application round.

DECISIONS

Decisions on grants are taken by the Director General of the Swedish Arts Council, following assessment by a reference group. Each application is assessed individually as well as being weighed up against other applications and grant allocations as a whole. There is no appeal against the decision.
Applicants will be informed about the decision by e-mail.

REPORTING

  • The grant must be used as described in the plans submitted in the application, and in line with the terms stated in the decision.
  • A report on the grant is to be submitted to the Swedish Arts Council by the date stated in the decision. An economic report verifying the expenses and a description of the travel/event are to be submitted.
  • If significant changes are made to the travel/event/activity as compared with the information in the application, the Swedish Arts Council must be informed – changes may mean that the grant or parts of the grant must be repaid.
  • On request, the grant recipient must submit an original receipt showing how the grant was used.

PAYMENT

Once approved, the grant will be paid to the plusgiro, bankgiro or bank account stated in the application.
