Bauhaus-Postdoc-Scholarship

The Bauhaus Post-Doc Scholarship enables exceptional post-doctoral researchers to advance their university careers through a new research project. The university awards the scholarship to encourage innovative ideas which address and enhance the research focuses of its faculties.

Who is eligible to apply?

Outstanding researchers who have earned a doctorate with excellent assessments are eligible to apply. The post-doc project has to have a connection to the current research focuses of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and possess an original approach which can enrich its research activities in the long term.

How is funding awarded?

1,850 euros per month for 12 months
An extension for an additional year is possible in exceptional cases.

Scholarship period

Applications are accepted starting in the winter semester.
The funding period generally begins in April of the following year.

Call for applications 2017/2018

The call for applications for scholarships in 2017/2018 ended on 15 December 2016. As a rule, the awarding committee for scholarships of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will select the scholarship holders in February.

The next calls for scholarships in 2018 (April) is expected to start in October 2017 - please wait and submit your documents only after the start of the application period, because requirements or forms may change.

Apply until: 15 December 2017

Applications will only be considered if they are complete and submitted before the application deadline. Candidates are not legally entitled to receive a scholarship.

Funding requirements

A Bauhaus Post-Doc Scholarship may not be awarded to candidates who are already receiving public funding.

Scholarships may not be awarded to full-time employees. Candidates are allowed, however, to work part-time in research or teaching at a Thuringian university or non-university research institute in Thuringia for a maximum of 10 hrs. per week or other part-time work for a maximum of 5 hrs. per week.

The funding period generally begins on 1 April.

Scholarship recipients are expected to give a project presentation open to members of the university.

In addition to submitting a final report, candidates are also expected to provide instruction to doctoral candidates at the Bauhaus Research School.

The university expressly desires that candidates publish work related to their post-doc projects during the funding period.

  1. Statement of motivation (your motivation for researching at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, how your project is connected to the areas of research and study at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, max. 2 pages)
  2. Curriculum vitae (CV)
  3. Project outline with explanation of the objectives, research overview, research theme, methods and selected bibliography (max. 10 pages); abstract
  4. Detailed timetable and work schedule
  5. Letter of recommendation from a professor of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and statement regarding the project, as well as the academic and organisational integration of the post-doc scholarship recipient
  6. List of references including the names of two additional university professors
  7. University degrees (master’s degree/Diplom) and doctoral certificate (as a digital scan)
