Who are the trainers?

We have a training team that have been working together as trainers since 2001: Linda Eriksson and Karin Bäckgren, from Sweden. Before that date they had an interpreter (Karin)-consumer (Linda) relationship.

Linda Eriksson is a pedagogue of the National Resource Center for Deafblindness (NKCdb) since 2014. Since 2008 she is also the Vice President of the Association of the Swedish Deafblind (FSDB). She has been working as a trainer at the 4-year vocational training programme at Fellingsbro Folk High School, among other places.

Karin Bäckgren is a trainer in sign language interpreting/ Deafblind interpreting and psychology in a 4-year vocational training programme at Fellingsbro Folk High School, in Örebro.

Both Linda and Karin have jointly published a book on Deafblind interpreting in 2007 (Dövblindtolkning- ett studiematerial) that will be soon re-edited and translated into English. They are a wonderful math of experience when it comes to Deafblind interpreting: Karin is an experienced Deafblind interpreter and an experienced trainer (hearing) and Linda is a person with deafblindness (tactile communication) and an experienced trainer. As a team they offer two perspectives of the interpreting context and the ethics concerning the interpreter role when working with Deafblind customers.

Communication at efsli Autumn Deafblind School

The trainers will use English (Karin) and Swedish Sign Language (Linda), that will be interpreted into English and International Sign.
