The Los Angeles Affiliate of the Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA) is proud to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Hasmik Mgrdichian Scholarships. The Hasmik Mgrdichian Scholarships were established in 2011 to annually award scholarships to university students. Each year $5,000 scholarships are awarded to five students. Applications are now available online and are open to all California women residents of Armenian descent who are applying for education in an accredited college or university. Applications are also accepted from students applying for graduate or undergraduate programs. Applications must be received/postmarked no later than April 21, 2016 and will be announced in May 2016. The criteria and applications are available on aiwala.org. Silva Katchiguian, President of AIWA-LA, stated: “We are very proud of our scholarship program which was created by Hasmik Mgrdichian, one of the founders of the Los Angeles Affiliate of the Armenian International Women’s Association. We were saddened by her passing in 2015, but her legacy as a true philanthropist continues with her donations to scholarships for Armenian women students, and supporting and providing relief for Armenian organizations and charities. It is heartwarming each year to receive applications from young Armenian women and to learn of their scholastic accomplishments and goals for the future.”
The Armenian International Women’s Association was established in 1991 to foster understanding among women worldwide and to address the critical issues facing them everywhere. Headquartered in Massachusetts, the organization has reached out to assist women in Armenia through its Women’s Entrepreneurship Program at the American University of Armenia and support of the Women’s Support Center project in Armenia which provides a safe haven for abused women. In addition, programs have showcased outstanding women in a variety of fields through workshops, seminars and symposiums, including International Conferences in London, Paris, Geneva, Buenos Aires, San Francisco, and Yerevan.
