Scholarships for international students awarded via the International Office

International students and doctoral researchers have the opportunity to apply to the International Office for a study grant. Limited funding from the State of Bavaria and the DAAD is available for this purpose.

The application deadline for Winter Semester is 31 August, and for Summer Semester 28 February. All grants can be awarded for up to two semesters.

Students:

Please include the following documents with your completed application form:

Enrolment certificate

Copies of your passport and residence permit

Letter of recommendation from a university instructor at the University of Bayreuth

Evidence of courses completed at the University of Bayreuth in the form of an official Transcript of Records that lists all credits earned and your grade point average

Letter of motivation

Resume

Signed declaration of the obligation to repay funds in the event of an application for naturalization

Unfortunately, first-semester students cannot be funded, i.e. applications cannot be submitted until the 2nd semester of study for funding starting in the 3rd semester of study. Decisive for the evaluation of the application are above all academic achievements from the previous semester, e.g. in the case of applications for the summer semester, grades from the previous summer semester; in the case of applications for the winter semester, grades from the previous winter semester (at least 20 credit points in total), a letter of recommendation from a university lecturer, and social engagement.

International doctoral researchers:

Letter of recommendation from your supervising professor at the University of Bayreuth (form)

Description and timeline of doctoral research

Letter of motivation

Resume

Signed declaration of the obligation to repay funds in the event of an application for naturalization (form)

Evidence of the final grade achieved in your master’s programme

Important notices for all applicants:

Only complete applications can be processed; incomplete applications must be rejected immediately. As a rule, submission of documents at a later date not possible!

You should write your letter of motivation according to the following criteria:

  • need
  • professional motivation, grades achieved (current status), goals and perspectives (studies, professional development)
  • social engagement

We recommend that applicants obtain all documents, especially letters of recommendation, in good time, i.e. during the lecture period!
