The Roddenberry Prize

About

The Roddenberry Prize seeks to highlight extraordinary organizations and support their efforts towards greater impact; seek out creative approaches from diverse members of our global community; and inspire others to take innovative and creative approaches to global problems.

Four awards of $250,000 will be granted to organizations working in the areas of Education, Environment, Science, or Humanity. In addition to the four $250,000 awardees, up to five organizations in each field will be recognized publicly as Prize Finalists.

Criteria for the Prize are innovativeness, potential for impact, vision, and track record.

Dates and Details
Prize Launch: March 4, 2020Between March 4 and April 10, you are invited to learn about the Prize and complete the Round One application.
Round One Deadline: April 10, 2020Complete registration and submit your application by 5:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time.
Round One review: April 13–May 8, 2020The Roddenberry Foundation team reviews submissions to ensure they comply with Prize eligibility and rules, and a panel of vetters evaluates Round One applications using the scoring rubric.
Round Two opens: May 11, 2020A select number of applications will be invited to submit application for Round Two of the Prize. Only those who are invited to Round Two will remain in consideration for the Prize. Invited applicants will have four weeks to submit their Round Two application.
Round Two deadline: June 5, 2020Round Two applicants will have three weeks to submit their Round Two application. All Round Two applications are due by June 5, 2020, at 5:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time.
Round Two Evaluation: June 8- July 13, 2020The Roddenberry Foundation team a panel of advisors evaluates applications using the scoring criteria.
Prize Announcement: August 2020The 2020 Prize Awardees will be announced on this website, The Roddenberry Foundation website, social media, and via press release.
 
Eligibility

The Roddenberry Foundation welcomes Prize applications from individuals, non-profits, social enterprises, and B-corps who meet all of the following:

  • Individuals who are 18 years of age or older
  • Organizations or institutions with a budget of $10mil or less
  • Organizations whose primary focus of their work is either Education, Science, Environment, or Humanity
  • Submit an application in English
  • Include completed responses to all required application questions
  • Agree to all legal terms and conditions of the Prize grant program
  • Be able to legally receive grant funding
