Science School for Physicians

ISPAD is proud to announce that the annual Science School for Physicians which brings together young researchers from around the world will take place in Stratford Upon Avon, United Kingdom, September 13th-17th 2020. The participants spend a week engaging with current world experts in all areas of diabetes. A central element of the school is the students’ presentation of their own ongoing or proposed research programs and these are debated openly and critically so that the individual leaves, not only with a much stronger proposal but often also with offers of support. The course aims to provide pediatricians training in Pediatric diabetes/endocrinology an opportunity to increase their knowledge and to learn new skills in the area of diabetes research in children and adolescents. Basic science and clinical topics in childhood diabetes will be covered, as well as several aspects of diabetes research (statistics, designing studies, reporting, applications for funding etc). The lectures and training will be covered by both UK based and international experts.

Members of JENIOUS, who previously attended a Science School, will be available as mentors for the students. Most participants of previous science schools have moved on to leading clinic or research positions around the world. Dr Juliana Chizo Agwu will convene the meeting. We invite pediatricians training in diabetes/endocrinology and early pediatric endocrinology/diabetes faculty from around the globe to apply attend the 20th Annual ISPAD Science School for Physicians. The Science School will cover costs of lodging, tuition, social program and travel.

Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town with more than 800 years of history, containing many buildings that survive today and would have been familiar to Shakespeare. It provides the ideal backdrop to encourage scientific thinking in diabetes research, and will provide a friendly atmosphere with lots of opportunities to interact with each other and the faculty members alike.

We are very happy, on behalf of ISPAD and JDRF, to announce that the best research project will be awarded an ISPAD-JDRF research fellowship (USD 25,000).
