Call for applications for the UCAJEDI Advanced Research Program

2019 Campaign

As part of its Advanced Research Program, Université Côte d'Azur is launching a call for applications from researchers, faculty and artists for research grants aimed at supporting original and very high-level disciplinary research in all scientific and artistic fields represented at Université Côte d'Azur.

This program will give rise to an annual call for applications.

It has a total of €360k over the two years, 2019 and 2020.

Calendar:

  • between March 25 and April 10: Period of oral interviews
  • Publication of results by 12 April at the latest.

Who is this for?

This call is aimed at active lecturers and researchers, having at least the status of maître de conferences or chargé de recherche (or equivalent), as well as artists on the basis of a research project in art and creation. Post-doctoral fellows and professors emeriti are therefore not eligible. Also excluded are artist residencies whose objective would be an artistic production that is not strongly linked to a research project.

The grants of the Advanced Research Program are primarily intended for external researchers, lecturers and artists who wish to collaborate with groups at Université Côte d'Azur. The objective is to bring to the laboratories and groups of Université Côte d'Azur, and for a moderately long period (1 to 2 semesters), researchers and artists of a very high level, whose presence will promote our site and whose interactions with our teams will strengthen our research and creativity potential and significantly increase the reputation of Université Côte d'Azur. The fellow's stay could also help to prepare for future recruitment.

Secondly, and up to one third of the total number of grants may also be awarded to researchers, lecturers and artists from Université Côte d'Azur, to help them establish ambitious international collaborations and develop an original research project, which should  lead to an application for major national or international calls (IUF or ERC in particular). The improvement of a previously submitted but not selected project will also be considered and examined with particular attention.

What is the nature of the grant?

For external applicants: operating expenses 800€/month + salary provided or topped up by Université Côte d’Azur to 5.5 k€/month. The grant will guarantee the beneficiary a gross salary of €5,500 per month and operating funds of €800 per month. The salary contribution from Université Côte d'Azur will be adjusted on a case-by-case basis, depending on the conditions under which the guest will be on the Côte d'Azur during his or her stay (sabbatical year with his or her original salary maintained, unpaid leave, etc.). The guest will also benefit from the reception facilities typically offered by IDEX UCAJEDI (Welcome Center, Faculty Club, schooling of children in international class for one-year stays).

In exchange, the fellow undertakes to give seminars and/or courses and to include Université Côte d'Azur in his or her signature for any scientific work carried out as part of the grant.

For internal applicants: operating expenses 800€/month + salary for a maximum of 6 months of engineer CCD and/or teaching release for faculty. The amount of the salary included in the scholarship will be the equivalent of a maximum of 6 months' average salary for a research engineer. Its use will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis according to the needs of each project. It will also be possible to use it to compensate for a service discharge for faculty (in agreement with the employer).

Selection criteria

The selection criteria will be as follows:

• Quality of the candidate's CV.

• Scientific and strategic interest of the project.

• For external candidates, the quality of the interactions planned with Université Côte d'Azur host team and the precision of the medium-term prospects opened by the collaboration.

Candidates will select and highlight the elements of their CVs that demonstrate their scientific excellence.

External candidates must also undertake to reside on the Côte d'Azur for the duration of their grant and to work within the team that will host them.
