The Crown Family Center for Jewish and Israel Studies at Northwestern University invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in Israel Studies. The fellowship is offered in partnership with Tel Aviv University, and consists of a two year term (September 1, 2019 - August 31, 2021), with the possibility of a one year extension. 

Applications are welcome from scholars who research any aspect of the history, culture, or society of modern Israel, including mandatory Palestine. The Fellow will be affiliated with both the Crown Center and an appropriate disciplinary department within Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences (e.g., History, Political Science, Religious Studies, Sociology, etc.). If appropriate, placements can be made in other units of the university. Fellows pursue a program of independent scholarship and teach two one-quarter undergraduate classes over the course of each three-quarter-long teaching year. Fellows are expected to be active participants in intellectual activities in both the Crown Center and their affiliated department and to be available for public programs in the community.

Applicants without a Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) must complete all the requirements for the degree before September 1, 2019. At the time of application, the applicant must be available for the full two-year term in Evanston, Illinois, USA. The salary is $58,500. In addition, Fellows are eligible for $2,000 per year to fund research and conference travel and for one round-trip airfare to Chicago. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. 

Applications must include curriculum vitae, abstract of Ph.D. dissertation, statement of proposed research and teaching interests, two course outlines, and three letters of recommendation with at least one commenting on candidate's teaching capabilities.
