The Diana Award for an Outstanding Young Person 2019, United Kingdom

Publish Date: Nov 05, 2018

Deadline: Mar 29, 2019

WHAT IS THE DIANA AWARD?

Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, The Diana Award is the most prestigious accolade a young person aged 9-25 years can receive for their social action or humanitarian work.

The Award is the longest running award for young people that is given to individuals and groups through a retrospective nomination process only. We believe this is special. Young people do not work towards the award, rather they demonstrate their suitability through their actions, without any expectation of reward.

INTRODUCING THE LEGACY AWARD

In 2017, to celebrate Diana’s legacy in the 20th Anniversary year, and inspire a new generation of young people to service their communities, we launched The Legacy Award.

Taking place every two years, the award celebrates the achievements of 20 outstanding young leaders, visionaries and role models from across the world, who have demonstrated their ability to inspire and mobilise new generations to service their communities, as Princess Diana believed they could.

To be eligible for The Legacy Award 2019, you must first receive a Diana Award between 2017-2019.

As well as receiving The Legacy Award from Their Royal Highnesses The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, recipients also have access to a unique Development Programme.

HOW CAN I NOMINATE?

Young people can be nominated for a Diana Award by an adult who works with them in a professional capacity, such as a teacher or youth worker. Full details on how to nominate can be found in the nomination centre.

WHAT ARE THE NOMINATION CRITERIA?

Nominators are asked to submit evidence against five key criteria, designed to demonstrate the nominee’s impact on society as well as their own service journey. These criteria are vision, social impact, youth-led, service journey and inspiring others.

WHAT DO DIANA AWARD HOLDERS RECEIVE?

If your nomination is successful, your nominee(s) will be invited to an awards ceremony in your local area where they will be presented with The Diana Award. If you live outside of the UK, your nominee(s) will receive The Diana Award via post and celebrated via our digital platform if it is not possible for them to receive it in person.

Diana Award Holders are also presented with an invitation to Althorp House, Princess Diana’s childhood home. These invitations are gifted to Diana Award Holders in kind by Princess Diana’s, brother Earl Spencer, in recognition of their continuation of Diana’s legacy.

WHO HAS PREVIOUSLY WON THE DIANA AWARD?

The Diana Award Roll of Honour can be found here.

WHAT IS THE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME?

The Diana Award Development Programme is a unique programme offering tailored support to the Legacy Award Winners. This includes special opportunities to attend events with potential partners to aid them in their social action work and develop new skills. They will also receive support and guidance from a Diana Award staff member to help them further develop their social action project.
