Date: 21-22 February 2019:

This is the second conference held by the cooperative research project “Russia´s North Pacific” (organized by the German Historical Institute Moscow in collaboration with Munich´s LudwigMaximilians-University). It will be hosted and is co-organized by the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS), Seoul.

Since Russians established their first settlements at the North Pacific, their relations and interactions with representatives of other neighbouring countries have been shaped by the trade of and the competition for various resources. As always in human history, resources and a shared environment could and can serve as bridge-builders and as bones of contention.

This international and interdisciplinary conference explores historical and contemporary developments of cooperation, trade and conflict on various resources between Russian actors in the Far East and their counterparts from neighbouring countries in the Asia-Pacific ((South and North) Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, the US, Canada, India). Of particular (but not exclusive) interest are conflictual and cooperative moments and developments in the realms of

- natural resources

- fossil and renewable energies

- civil and military infrastructures and the respective concepts of order and space

- transportation systems for people, energy and (other) commodities

- environmental knowledge and protection

- industrial facilities and products as well as

- human resources
