Competition - University of Rome Tor Vergata Post-doctoral fellowship in Epigenetics at CEM, University of California, Irvine

Purpose of the Call

The University of Rome Tor Vergata (UTR) and the Center for Epigenetics and Metabolism (CEM) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), have established a high-profile educational and research partnership that extends over several years. The central feature of the partnership is to offer the opportunity to exceptional students to develop a post-doctoral research program at the CEM within the general field of epigenetics, with special attention to its relevance to nutrition, metabolism and neuroscience. UTR hereby announces the selection regarding the awarding of n.1 fellowship, of a value of 100.000,00 euros to students with doctoral studies in the fields of medicine or biology earned in an Italian University. The value of the fellowship is 100.000,00 euros, divided as follows: UTR will transfer the amount of 50.000,00 euros to the CEM; CEM will provide the fellowship salary with the amount received by UTR. CEM will cover the costs of laboratories, health insurance, use of facilities for bioinformatics and genomics and registration for conferences access for a total amount of 50.000,00 euros. Publications by the awarded postdoctoral fellow generated during the research period at the CEM, will indicate the support of ‘Università di Roma Tor Vergata Post-doctoral Fellowship’. This prestigious award will allow researchers to benefit of the outstanding scientific environment of the University of California, Irvine, as well as the exceptional concentration of other academic institutions in Southern California. 

Admission requirements

  • Doctoral studies in the fields of medicine or biology earned in an Italian University in the last 5 years, calculated by reference to the expiry date of the following notice;
  • Academic, professional and scientific curriculum appropriate to the specific research topic of the fellowship

Terms and conditions

The application form has to be filled out. The signed application form and all the attachments must be electronically submitted to ucirvine@fellowships.uniroma2.it (In the e-mail object specify: ‘2017 University of Rome Tor Vergata Postdoc Fellowship in Epigenetics at CEM, University of California’).

In the application form, the applicant must declare: 

1. surname, name, place and date of birth;

2. citizenship;

3. fiscal code;

4. title of doctoral studies as requested in this notice, date and University;

5. permanent address;

6. telephone number and an email contact.

It is mandatory to attach to the application form:

1. curriculum vitae (with date and signature);

2. letter of intent;

3. titles that are considered useful for the selection;

4. research proposal;

5. at least two letters of support from research supervisors;

6. copy of an identity document.

Selection Criteria

A specialized board constituted by scientists from UTR and CEM will evaluate the requirements and the submitted applications. The board will award the fellowship based on excellence in academic and research of the candidate. Submitted applications can originate from UTR as well as from other Italian institutions, though at equal level of quality students from UTR will be favored.

Scholarship

The fellowship is for a potential two-year period, with a critical evaluation at the end of the first year to assess the possibility of renewal for the second year. The “Sebastiano and Rita Raeli Foundation for Tor Vergata” will fully fund the scholarship. The award itself is no guarantee of employment at UTR or UCI once the post-doctoral period is achieved.
