POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS (3)
for a three-year fixed-term period preferably starting from 1 March, 2018 onwards (or as agreed).
The successful candidates’ research projects will focus on one of these areas:
a) Russian Environmental Studies
b) Russian Big Data Methodology
c) Russian Law and Administration
a) Russian Environmental Studies
The post-doctoral position in Russian Environmental Studies aims at strengthening research, academic collaboration, teaching and societal outreach in the field. Candidates with a strong publication record, experience in research collaboration and teaching in the field of multidisciplinary social environmental science are appreciated. Candidates specializing in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: environmental & sustainability governance, climate policy & discourse, power analytics, human & political ecology, science and technology studies, spatial & environmental planning, corporate social & environmental responsibility, environmental humanities.
b) Russian Big Data methodology
An appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher in Russian Big Data methodology would work in the Digital Russia Studies research group focusing on the increasingly significant role digitalization, ‘datification’ and algorithms play in Russian state administration, economic and political governance, as well as modes of cultural production. We are looking for candidates with a background in social sciences, computational linguistics, media and cultural studies, STS or digital humanities/computational social science, or some combination of these. Expertise in the use of computational methods (data analysis in R/Python, implementation of databases, management of large corpora, etc.) as well as familiarity with research on Russian state and society should be demonstrated in the research plan.
c) Russian Law and Administration
The post-doctoral position in Russian Law and Administration aims at strengthening research and academic collaboration in the field. It is open for candidates with a strong publication and research activities record in the interdisciplinary legal research. The candidates specializing in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: socio-legal research, access to justice, digital law, human rights, gender and law, comparative law, rule of law and governance.
The postdoctoral researchers to be appointed will have proven expertise in one of these areas.
Their main duties will include full-time research in their respective fields. The posts will require both independent and collaborative scholarly publishing, as well as teaching and other tasks.
An appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field, have the ability to conduct independent scientific research and possess the teaching skills required for the position. The candidate should have a proven capability to publish in scientific journals, have excellent analytical and methodological skills, and be able to work both independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary scientific community. The successful candidates are expected to have excellent skills in written and oral English, as well as a good command of the Russian language.
The doctoral degree must have been granted by the awarding institution prior to the closing date for applications. Furthermore, the doctoral degree is expected to have been granted no more than five years prior to application (2012 or later). The five-year limit may be exceeded only for particularly compelling reasons, such as maternity, paternity or parental leave, military or non-military service leave, or extended sick leave. An applicant who appeals for an exemption from the five-year limit must indicate the reasons in his or her curriculum vitae.

The salary will be based on level 5 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research staff in the salary system of Finnish universities. The annual gross salary range will be from 41,000 to 50,000 euros, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
