H.C. CENTER FOR WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT

Scholar-in-Residence Program Overview

The Hillary Clinton Center for Women’s Empowerment (HCC) at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco is the foremost English-language center for grassroots outreach and interdisciplinary scholarship on gender and women’s rights issues in North Africa. The focus of our scholarship is on the contemporary and historical forces that shape current gender discourses in the region.

In addition to sponsoring the scholar-in-residence program, the HCC coordinates programs for distinguished guest speakers, supports educational outreach programs for semi-literate rural women, and hosts international conferences and symposia.

The Scholar-in-Residence Program is open to emerging and internationally established scholars. The residency includes:

• Administrative support (residence permit, institutional affiliation, etc.)

• Research assistance

• Library research support

• Access to scholarly community in Morocco and North Africa

• Office

• Subsidized housing

In exchange, scholars-in-residence are expected to give one public lecture and be involved in select HCC activities.

If you have questions, please contact Dr. Doris Gray, Director of the HCC: d.gray@aui.ma.
