In mid‐March in GeorgiaCENN is hosting an international workshop on ‘Youth Response to Environmental Challenges: Climate Change and Natural Disaster Mitigation’. By bringing together various perspectives and by promoting an interactive discussion, the workshop will provide useful insights on the role of communities in environmental challenges. At this point CENN is welcoming applications from young people aged between 18 and 30, from countries within the Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions.

The workshop aims at bringing together young people: community members and students to discuss contemporary global environmental challenges, disaster risk reduction and community involvement. In particular, workshop sessions will focus on (1) outlining the major environmental risks faced by the countries of the region (2) discussing prevention and mitigation techniques in situations of natural disasters, and (3) the role and contribution young people can make during mitigation, response and recovery phases. Georgian and
international experts will be invited to discuss these issues and provide advice on the way forward. The first
part of the workshop will be dedicated to knowledge exchange regarding international approaches to
contemporary environmental challenges; while the second part will focus on development of personal skills
to effectively engage is awareness raising campaigns and participate in community mobilization
to prevent and respond to various environmental threats. The workshop will provide a platform to discuss cases of community involvement in prevention of natural disasters and in relief activities as well asto develop a
framework for future collaboration and exchange of knowledge. The participants will be given an opportunity
to plan small‐scale, community level awareness raising projects at the workshop and implement those upon
return to their home countries.

Only limited number of participants will be invited to the workshop. Their travel expenses and
accommodation will be organized and covered by CENN. Preference will be given to English speaking
participants, but attempts will be made to provide translation to those lacking English skills.
