The Aram Khachaturian International Competition broadens its sphere of activities: this year for the first time in its history the competition is open for vocalists.

The 13th Aram Khachaturian International Competition will be held in Yerevan from June 6 to 14, 2017. Constantine Orbelyan is appointed Chairman of the Jury. The competition is aimed at identifying talented young musicians in "Vocal" specialty. The Aram Khachaturian International Competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions.

Eligibility

The competition is open for Singers (Soprano, Mezzo-soprano, Tenor, Baritone, Bass) regardless their citizenship and nationality. The age limit of participants at the date of the Competition opening (June 6, 2017) is not younger than 18 and not older than 35 years inclusive.

Competition

The Aram Khachaturian International Vocal Competition consists of Preliminary selection and 3 rounds: 1st round, 2nd round (semifinal), 3rd round (final). No more 40 participants will be allowed to participate in the 1st round of the Competition. No more than 20 participants will be allowed to participate in the 2nd round. No more than 10 participants will be allowed to participate in the 3rd round. In special cases, by decision of the jury, a larger number of participants may be admitted to the next round of the competition.

Pianist

Contestants can bring their own accompanists (pianists), having to indicate this in their applications. If no accompanist is indicated, the Administration will provide accompanists. The Competition will not cover expenses for accompanying person(s) including the pianist.

The participant is obliged to provide the pianist with his/her reduction, as the Competition is not responsible for the provision of the necessary materials. The pianist provided by the Competition shall be provided with clear and readable scores. The Competition will provide a room for warm-up before his/her performance during each round. All competition pieces must be performed by heart.  The pitch of the piano is 442 Hz. Each participant is free to decide the order of his/her pieces during the performance. The duration of participant's performance must not exceed the maximum allowable norm, defined by the Competition Rules. The jury reserves the right to refrain from awarding a prize altogether or to divide a prize. The decision of the jury is final and indisputable. 

Selection of participants

Each participant must provide the Competition with a link of his/her online video performance of 2 arias of his/her choice to be sung by heart in the original key and original language (Repertoire is up to the participant's choice). The minimum duration of the 2 links should be 10 minutes. Only videos made after June 6, 2014 are accepted. Videos should be taken by one fixed camera without interruption during performance of one piece. Participants must provide the exact list of compositions, indicating the date and duration of the video recordings.

During the Preliminary selection the participants have to present compositions of only classical or romantic periods. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds of the competition are open to the public. The order of appearance of participants will be determined by a random draw. This order is kept till the end of the Competition.

All rights to recording and broadcast of the Competition and the final concerts of the winners (as also to the sale and distribution of the forgoing materials) belong to the Competition Committee; participants will not be compensated.

All the finalists of the Competition are obliged to give a gratis performance on the closing ceremony and the concerts of the Laureates of the Competition with no financial reimbursement. As of the moment of publication all the rules of participation are correct. However, the organizing committee of the competition reserves the right of certain adjustments concerning which the participants will be notified.

The completed and signed online application form should be attached with documents listed below:

  • The photocopy of the passport or the birth certificate,
  • Biography (in English),
  • One artistic photo (of 2Mb minimal size) for use in the competition print materials,
  • 2 letters of recommendation provided by well-known musicians,
  • Copy of admission fee payment order for Preliminary selection. No application will be considered without payment confirmation document.  

The Competition has the right to reject an application which does not meet the regulations of the Competition. An application signed by the candidate indicates that he/she accepts all mentioned conditions. Participants representing false information are subject to disqualification. Participants who passed the Preliminary selection will be informed via e-mail. The results of Preliminary selection will be announced on the site of the Competition on May 5, 2017.

Admission fee 

The admission fee of 70 Euros has to be paid for the applicants for the Preliminary selection. The admission fee will not be reimbursed.

After receiving the invitation the foreign participants should apply to the Armenian Embassy or Consulate in their countries for visa. The participants may get visa also at the Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan.
