Elaine Geering Scholarship in English Literature
History or background of award
This Scholarship has been established by Lloyd Geering in memory of his wife Elaine Geering. Elaine, who was undertaking a PhD in English Literature at Victoria up until the time of her death in 2001, was particularly interested in Old English and Medieval Literature.
Purpose of award
The Scholarship shall be open to:
a) students undertaking Honours, Masters or PhD studies in Medieval, Old English, or New Zealand literature at Victoria University, including students transferring from other universities; or
b) students who have completed their undergraduate studies at Victoria University and are enrolled in postgraduate study of Medieval, Old English, or New Zealand literature at an approved overseas institution.
Selection criteria
The successful candidate will be chosen on the basis of their academic transcript and an 'Application Form.'
The Scholarship is offered to New Zealand citizens and permanent residents only.
Decision makers
The selection panel shall consist of the Head of the School of English, Film and Theatre (or nominee), and the convenor of the Scholarships Committee (or nominee).

The successful applicant will be chosen on the basis of their academic transcript and an application form
What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The Victoria University Foundation will expect recipients to write a letter of thanks to the donor on receipt of the award and an end of year progress report.
