Creative Fiction and Non-Fiction: Utrecht Writing Workshop (B2+)

Writing creatively, in any genre, is the ultimate way to explore the possibilities for expression and innovation in language. In this course (with instruction in Dutch or English) you will focus on structure, style, and genre to improve your writing skills, and write critical exegeses of your work to situate it within longstanding traditions and current trends in literature.

The course – which is heavily based on active participation and collaboration – asks students to complete reading and writing exercises, with options in literary fiction and non-fiction, prose and poetry, Dutch and English.

This course also helps you to explore the way in which successful writers consciously change how they use language to work best in different contexts – from tone, to word choice, to style. By the end of the course, you will know exactly what your strengths and weaknesses are and how to overcome these; you will also have several project ideas (or even completed pieces) that eventually might be shared through performance or publication.

And finally, this course help you to become a critical, yet supportive and helpful reader of others' work, as well as your own.
