Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Holocaust and Genocide Studies

The Hugo Valentin Centre (HVC) is an interdisciplinary unit at the Department of History, Uppsala University, with a focus on research and education in two particular fields: first, cultural, social and political phenomena and processes of change related to the ethnic dimension of human life and, second, Holocaust and genocide studies. The latter field includes Holocaust history and historiography, comparative analyses of genocide and other grave violations of human rights, as well as research on the effect of mass violence on individuals and society. Research is conducted in a markedly cross-disciplinary environment that brings together researchers with a background in humanities and social sciences.

Administrative proficiency is important for the position and will be given weight. This skill is demonstrated by, for example, an ability to plan, organise and prioritise work in a way that is efficient and fit for purpose. It is also shown by a capacity to define and adhere to time frames. Proficiency includes overall work planning, an ability to initiate and run networks and to organise conferences and seminars, and skill in managing resources in a manner that benefits activities. Applicants are required to be highly proficient in English, with skill in expressing themselves in speech and writing.
Application procedure: A complete application, including publications cited, must include:
- A curriculum vitae and attested copies of certificates and other documents referred to.
- A brief account of academic, teaching and other work. Personal circumstances (such as parental leave) that can, in assessment of qualifications, be credited to the applicant should be included in the account of qualifications and experience.
- A list of the five academic works cited in the application. These should be ranked according to their relevance to the application. It must also be clearly stated which writings belong to the following categories: monographs, peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Publications cited must be enclosed with the application.
- A five-page project description closely connected with the state of the art in the research field.
In the event of divergent interpretations of the English and Swedish versions of this announcement, the Swedish version takes precedence.
