PhD Studentship in Gut Microbiology

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated PhD graduate student to work on a research project titled “Modulation of human gut microbiota using psychobiotics” led by Dr. Riadh Hammami. The laboratory is located at School of Nutrition Sciences (SNS), Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Ottawa.

Its geographical location near many national agencies including Health Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Public Health Agency of Canada and Statistics Canada provides added opportunities for multidisciplinary research collaborations and knowledge application.

Applications from well-motivated Canadian and international candidates are welcomed. The candidate should hold a M.Sc. degree in environmental microbiology/microbial ecology, or a related field. Previous exposure to and experience with basic microbiology and molecular biology techniques is essential. Experience in microbe isolation and identification, standard molecular methods, and fermentation is preferred. Team-orientation and excellent communication skills are expected.

The PhD candidate will be employed for 3 years starting from January 2018. The successful candidate will run for an annual fellowship of $25,000. Only candidate with strong academic records will be considered.
