University of Oslo Position as a Postdoctoral Fellow

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is vacant in the Department of Special Needs Education within the subject area intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Department of Special Needs Education at the University of Oslo is one of the three departments at the Faculty of Education. The department focuses on basic and applied research and education of  bachelor-, master- and doctoral level candidates within the field of special needs education in Norway. 

The Department of Special Needs Education has a bachelor program and a master program with five different specializations, and one of them giving a specialization within intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Department of Special Needs Education is in the process of establishing an “Assessment and Learning Lab” working with cognitive-, linguistic and social abilities for children, youths and adults. It might be possible for the successful applicant to be a scientific partner in the work going on in the lab.

The main objective of appointments to the position of postdoctoral fellow is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their respective area of study.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates who have a considerable interest in educational research within the subject area of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Qualification requirements

The appointment requires a PhD or a degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in intellectual and developmental disabilities or in another relevant discipline. A prerequisite for applicants who have not yet defended their thesis is that the PhD work is submitted for assessment before the closing date for applications. Appointment to the post doctoral position is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.

In the assessment of the applications, emphasis will be put on:

  • The quality of the project description
  • The project’s relevance for educational programmes  and research within intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Department of Special Needs Education
  • The applicants’ academic and personal qualifications for conducting the project
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the post
  • Good ability to collaborate and to form part of a cross-disciplinary academic community

  • Project description, including progress plan (max. 10 pages). It is assumed that the applicant will be able to complete the project in the course of the period of employment.
  • Any academic works that must be taken into account in the assessment
