University of Oslo PhD Research Fellow in Personality Psychology

A PhD research fellowship in personality psychology is available at the Department of Psychology, University in Oslo. The fellowship is part of the project "Day-to-day dynamics in global self-esteem. An experience sampling study using smartphone technology". By studying daily dynamics in self-esteem, the project aims to provide novel information about within-person and between-person variations in self-esteem, the function of self-esteem, and prospective associations between self-esteem and psychological and situational factors. Data will primarily be collected by conducting intensive, short term longitudinal studies. The project will use smartphone apps for data collection that are specifically developed for the project. The appointment is either for a period of three years devoted to research, or for a period of four years with 25% teaching requirements, including teaching- and supervision duties and research assistance. The fellowship period may be reduced within the framework of pertaining regulations based on previously held research fellowship positions.

The purpose of the appointment is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The successful candidate will be admitted to the PhD-programme at the Faculty of Social Sciences when appointed for the position.

Requirements

We are looking for a qualified and highly motivated candidate with the following requirements:

  • A master's degree or equivalent in psychology or a related field, qualifying for admission to the PhD programme at the Department of Psychology
  • Good experience in quantitative data analysis, preferably including knowledge of longitudinal data analysis and/or multilevel analysis
  • Skills and experience in computer programming or web design/app design are an advantage
  • Excellent written or spoken English language skills.
  • Norwegian language skills or the readiness to acquire an adequate level quickly. Courses and seminars that are part of the PhD programme will normally be held in Norwegian.

  • Salary based on salary grade 50-57 (NOK 430 500 - 483 700 per annum, depending on competence). Allocated pay grade is normally 50 on appointment.
