University of Oslo PhD Position or Postdoctoral Fellowship in Immunology

A three year Fellowship position for a PhD Candidate (SKO 1017) or a Postdoctoral research Fellow (SKO 1352) with background in immunology is available at the Department of Immunology. The project is located at the research group of Professor Ludvig M. Sollid at the Centre for Immune Regulation (CIR), University of Oslo, Institute of Clinical Medicine. CIR is a Research Council of Norway and FOCIS Centre of Excellence (for more details, please visit the web site at www.cir.uio.no).
The purpose of the PhD Fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The Fellowship requires admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Medicine. Appointment to a PhD research Fellowship is conditional upon admission to the Faculty’s research training programme.
The main objective of appointment to the position of Postdoctoral Fellow is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their respective area of study. No one can be appointed for more than one specified period as a Postdoctoral research Fellow at the same institution.

Job Description

The project has focus on autoimmunity and the mechanism underlying generation of autoantibodies in celiac disease. In order to study this mechanism at a molecular and cellular level, Ludvig Sollid’s group has as part of an ERC project generated a new B-cell Receptor (BCR) knock-in mouse. The BCR is derived from a plasma cell of a celiac disease patient specific for the autoantigen transglutaminase 2. The model pursued in the project is that gluten specific T cells can provide help to transglutaminase 2 specific B cells with involvement of hapten-carrier like complexes of transglutaminase 2 and gluten (Sollid, Nat Rev Immunol 2002). The work will consist of studying this B-T cell collaboration both in vivo in mice and ex vivo.

The successful applicant will join a 20-member group within an interactive multidisciplinary centre of scientists, in a strong academic environment, focusing on immune dysregulation in autoimmune disease (see http://www.med.uio.no/cir/english/research/groups/sollid/ for further information).
The PhD Candidate/Postdoctoral research fellow is expected to take active part in the research cooperation within the project.

Requirements

  • We are looking for a highly motivated and structured candidate with excellent laboratory skills and good collaborative qualities.
  • Experiences from in vivo experiments in mice (Felasa C certificate) and cellular immunology techniques are considered a strong advantage.
  • It is an advantage to have experience in mouse immunology, and in particular B-cell immunology.
  • The candidate must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • For appointment as a PhD candidate, the applicant must hold a project-relevant Master’s degree equivalent to a Norwegian Master’s degree in the relevant field of research.
  • For appointment as a Postdoctoral research Fellow, the applicant must have a project-relevant PhD degree (or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree).
