PhD Candidate in Chemical Neuroscience

A 3-year PhD position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Camila Esguerra. The main aim of this doctoral thesis project is to establish and characterize novel zebrafish models of schizophrenia and to identify chemical modifiers of the disease towards the development of therapeutic drug leads.

The project is part of DigiBrain, a Norwegian Research Council-funded Digital Life Initiative* that seeks to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying schizophrenia. The DigiBrain consortium comprises a highly interdisciplinary team and the successful candidate will benefit from frequent and regular interaction with many experts from the different fields of clinical psychiatry, human genetics, mathematics, biophysics, information technology, stem cells, and neurobiology in both academia and industry.

Dr. Esguerra´s laboratory is affiliated with both the Faculty of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy and is situated in Oslo Research Innovation Park (Forskningsparken) adjacent to the UiO Blindern Campus. The PhD student will also greatly benefit from career development programs offered both at UiO as well as the Digital Life Centre PhD/Postdoctoral fellow Training programs and the Nordic EMBL network of the Centre for Molecular Medicine, Norway.

Doctoral candidate:

We seek a highly motivated individual holding a Master´s degree who appreciates working in a team within an international and interactive environment. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in zebrafish, neurobiology, and/or molecular biology with a keen interest in CNS disorders and drug discovery. Felasa C animal training and additional experience in chemical biology, animal behavioral analysis, electrophysiology and/or imaging methods would be an advantage.

The position will be placed as SKO 1017 (position code) pre-doctoral research fellow, with salary range depending on qualifications (NOK 432 700 - 489 300) per annum. The position is for three years.
