RULES OF THE COMIX COMPETITION NOUVEAU TALENT BDFIL 2017 THEME THE WAVE

Nouveau talent, the comix competition of BDFIL, is dedicated to the promotion of new talent. The competition is open to anyone over the age of 15 who has not yet been published and carries prize money totalling CHF 4’500.- (€ 4’200.- approx*). The theme for the 2017 edition is “The wave”. The three winners will be invited to stay during the Festival (14th – 18th September 2017). The deadline for entries is Friday 30th June 2017 (date of postmark as proof).

GENERAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The comix competition Nouveau talent BDFIL 2017 is open to anyone over the age of 15 domiciled in Switzerland or abroad and whose work has never been published in the form of an album or regularly in a large-circulation newspaper or magazine. Participants whose work is being published at the time of the award ceremony (Thursday 14th September 2017) will be disqualified. Each participant may enter one project only. As the competition aims to encourage and recompense complete artists, collective entries will not be accepted. Winners of previous competitions, with the exception of ‘special mentions’, are not allowed to re-enter.

SUBMISSION OF PROJECTS

Every project should present a complete story, on one board, with or without text, and be closely connected with the theme of the competition: “The wave”. This theme may be freely interpreted. Every project should be presented on a format A3 (29.7 x 42 cm maximum) and in the French format (vertical). Projects that contain no narrative or that are presented in a different format will be automatically excluded from the competition. Participants are free to choose the style, form and the materials used for their projects. Any text/dialogue used in the story must be in French. The name, first name, date of birth (day/month/year), complete postal address, telephone number (mobile and land line) and e-mail address of the participant must be written clearly on the back of the project. Artists must mention the working and colouring techniques used in the creation of their board. The summary document on page 3 must be completed and returned.

DEADLINE FOR PARTICIPATION

Competition entrants should send their work to the address of BDFIL (BDFIL, Concours Nouveau talent, Place de la Cathédrale 12, 1005 Lausanne - Switzerland) by Friday 30th June 2017 at the latest (date of postmark as proof – priority/first class mailing if posted the previous week or on 30th June). Sending in a competition project implies acceptance of the present rules.

SENDING/DELIVERING PROJECTS

Each project (original or print) must arrive at BDFIL flat, neither folded nor rolled, and packaged in such a way as to ensure optimum protection. BDFIL will send a confirmation e-mail of reception of projects by 21 st July at the latest to all entrants. Any projects sent from outside Switzerland must contain the information « no commercial value » clearly indicated on the customs form*. It will only be possible to hand in projects at the BDFIL office from Monday to Friday from 14h to 17h, until 30th June. *BDFIL declines all responsibility in the case of withholding or blocking of projects by customs authorities and will not pay any additional costs resulting in erroneous customs.

COMPETITION JURY

The competition jury will be chaired by Anna Sommer, guest of honour BDFIL 2017, and composed of several people, including a specialized journalist, an editor and a Festival representative. In making its choice, the Jury will take into account compliance with the requirements of the competition rules, the originality, the quality of realisation of the creation, as well as the specific qualities of the storyline (execution, cut-out, etc) and graphic design.

RESULTS AND PRIZES

Three BDFIL prizes:

  • 1st prize CHF 2,000.- (approx. € 1,870)
  • 2nd prize CHF 1,500. - (approx. € 1,400)
  • 3rd prize CHF 1,000. - (approx. € 930)

The three prize-winners will be notified personally by telephone and by e-mail, on Friday, July 28 th at the latest. Their names as well as reproductions of their projects will be communicated to the press and displayed on the website of BDFIL– from Friday 15 th September 2017. The jury may, in addition to awarding the three main prizes, discern one or more special mentions in order to reward the quality of a particular project. The special mentions are purely honorary awards, unless otherwise specified, and are not endowed with prize money.
