The Book Illustration Competition is a unique partnership between House of Illustration and The Folio Society that seeks to identify and promote new talent in illustration. The competition is open to illustrators over the age of 18, both student and professional, who have not been previously published by The Folio Society.

This year we are asking entrants to submit three illustrations and a binding design for Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. The winner will receive a highly sought-after commission, worth £5,000, to complete a total of nine illustrations and a binding design for the book, which will be published by The Folio Society in 2017. Five runners up will each receive £500 cash. Three of the six prizes are awarded to student entries.

To enter the competition you will need to read Mansfield Park by Jane Austen and to illustrate three different scenes and a binding design. You must submit your three illustrations plus your binding design via the competition website by 9am GMT on 16 January 2017 Late entries will not be considered.

1. You must submit three illustrations, each of a different scene from the book

3. Register online

We will only accept entries via the online form on the competition website. You will need to register, after which we will send you a confirmation email with your login details. Please check your spam folder for this email if it doesn’t arrive immediately. The online form will enable you to edit your contact details and also the captions for your uploaded images.

To register click the Further Official Information below the announcement.

4. Save and upload your images and captions

For upload to this site, illustrations should be saved as 150–155 dpi, RGB, JPEGs (jpeg setting 8) as detailed in the ‘The Illustrations’ guide above. Your binding and your illustrations of the three scenes must be submitted in the same entry. Work may be disqualified if these specifications are not met in full.

Please retain a separate high-resolution copy of your entire entry with correct specifications. These are the files that will be used if your entry is selected as the winner.

5. Read and accept the Terms and Conditions

All entrants must be over 18 and not previously published by The Folio Society. By submitting entries to the competition, you are confirming that you have read, understood and agree to the Terms and Conditions on the official website.

6. Pay your entry fee

Once you have completed the submission form and accepted the Terms and Conditions, you will be taken through to the Paypal page to pay for your entry. If you do not already have a Paypal account, you will need to set one up first. The competition entry fee is £25, or £15 for students – you must be able to provide evidence of student status.

7. Confirmation

We will send you a confirmation email once payment has been received and your application has been successfully submitted.

Deadline

The final deadline for entries to the competition is 9 am GMT on 16 January 2017.  We strongly recommend completing your entry earlier if possible, to avoid running into any last-minute issues and because heavy traffic can slow down the site.
