The Summer Course on Refugees and Forced Migration  is an internationally acclaimed, non-credit course for academic and field-based practitioners working in the area of forced migration. It serves as a hub for researchers, students, practitioners, service providers and policy makers to share information and ideas.  The Summer Course is housed within theCentre for Refugee Studies (CRS), York University.

The Summer Course provides an interdisciplinary, interactive and experiential approach to the study of forced migration. Through attending lectures and related small group sessions, course participants develop a deepened understanding of the political, economic, social and cultural contexts of forced migration, and the major state and non-state institutions involved in refugee protection and advocacy.
 Participants will  have an opportunity during the course for structured networking and idea collaboration through panels and small group discussion.

All participants who complete the full course receive a York University Centre for Refugee Studies Summer Course Certificate.

Applicants must submit a complete Summer Course Application Form along with a resume or CV, letter of reference from an employer or volunteer supervisor, and a short autobiographical sketch outlining their academic and practical background with respect to refugee issues as well as a short statement of particular interests in this field.

Funding for the CRS Summer Course is organized by the participant him- or herself. CRS offers partial bursaries to a very limited number of participants based on availability of internal funding and need. In order to organize your funding, we recommend that you obtain sponsorship from the training allocation of a project or programme attached to your organization or donors that fund professional development activities.

Regular course fee $1400+13% HST (Feb 1- April 1, 2016)

More affordable accommodation on campus is available for $37/night (+tax) for a single occupancy room from May 8-14, 2016. Bedrooms are furnished with a twin bed, desk, lamp, large wardrobe and telephone. Bed linen, towels and soap are provided. All residence rooms have personal phone lines with phones provided. The telephone service in every room features local calls at no charge and requires calling cards to be used for long distance calls. Internet is not available. Cooking is not permitted. Please note that once booked, room reservations are confirmed and refunds are not available.  For booking online, email summer@yorku.ca  The deadline for booking on campus is March 31st, 2016.

Off-campus
Other hotels near campus might be a little cheaper, but require a short commute (please note that bus service may be irregular especially on the weekend, and taxi rides may end up adding up to the difference in hotel price, for this reason we recommend on-campus accommodation as a first choice).
