Researcher in Integrated Circuit for Inplantable NFC Sensor, University of Oslo

A position as Researcher (position code 1109) is available at the Nanoelectronics Group. The fellowship is for a period of up to 1.5 years. Starting date no later than 01-Oct-2016. No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution.

Project description

The position is part of the interdisciplinary SuPre project with partners Sunaas Rehabilitation Hospital, and SINTEF, sponsored by the Norwegian Research Council under the program 'Innovation in the Public Sector'. The project's broader goal is to develop health services based on implantable sensors with wireless transmission to a smartphone or computer. More specifically it aims at demonstrating the use of implantable pressure sensors to monitor the urinary bladder in patients with severe voiding dysfunction.

The Nanoelectronics Group at the department of informatics at UiO is specialized in ASIC and system-on-chip (SoC) design. Recently we have introduced a first iteration of a single ASIC near field communication (NFC) sensor tag controller, including sensor front end, ADC, NFC wireless communication and energy transfer. Furthermore, we have also implemented software on an NFC enabled Android smart phone to communicate with the tag.

The goal of this postdoc is to carry on the implantable NFC tag development for the specific pressure sensor to be used in this project and in general to improve and extend the design. Thus, we are looking for expertise in SoC, with experience in the design of at least one but preferably several system modules, like analog front-end, ADC, finite state machine, rectifier, regulator, load shift keying, and possibly non-volatile memory and other relevant system components.

The candidate will work closely together with experts from all of the involved partners and is expected to be able to acquire the necessary cross-disciplinary knowledge for the project. Thus, also experience from the biomedical or MEMS sensors domain is considered an advantage.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in microelectronics or similar subjects with experience in ASIC design in CMOS technology. Prior experience with sensor ADC, logic layout synthesis, wireless communication (NFC in particular), low power and other relevant areas for the specific project context will be an advantage. If you will finish your PhD degree before July 31st 2016 you are also allowed to apply. Add the transcripts of the status of your studies now and you will be asked to supply your final degree's documentation later.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines. Please also refer to the regulations pertaining to the conditions of employment for post-doctoral fellowship positions:
