Research Associate Positions at School of Computing Science, Simon Fraser University, Canada

The School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University invites applications for TWO University Research Associates in the area of Big Data.  University Research Associates are expected to conduct research, supervise graduate students, and provide course instruction.

A Ph.D. in Computer Science or related area is required, with a commitment to excellence in research and teaching. The School is seeking applicants with backgrounds including cloud computing, distributed systems, machine learning, data mining, and/or predictive analytics. Experience with the processing of (and interaction with) large data sets using state-of-the-art software tools (such as Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Cassandra, leveldb) and systems (including experience with PaaS or SaaS systems) is essential.

The research associates may be required to provide instruction for CMPT 732, 733 or other courses associated with the SFU Professional Masters Program in Big Data.  Please review samples of past course outlines and the Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 course schedules.

The expected salary will be approximately $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.  The positions are funded for two years, and are renewable depending upon availability of funds.  For more information about University Research Associate Appointments at Simon Fraser University please review Policy R50.01

The School currently has 40 research faculty members, approximately 240 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, and more than 1500 undergraduate majors.
