Position as Associate Professor in Information Security at the Department of Informatics

A position as Associate Professor (position code 1011) is available in Information Security at the Department of Informatics. The department is seeking a scientist with clear research visions, educational and administrative skills and abilities to establish and lead research projects.

The Department of informatics at The University of Oslo is the largest and broadest academic ICT department in Norway, and comprises the field of Computer Science and interdisciplinary activities towards mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. Many computer science projects at the department use combinations of simulations, experiments, development of prototypes and empirical analysis.

Specific information about the position

The candidate must have achieved associate professor level in informatics and have formal qualifications within the general area of information security. The candidate must also have research experience in one or several of the following specific areas: application security, secure software development, system and network security, vulnerability/penetration testing, and investigation of cyber-attacks.

The applicant should describe how his/her research and teaching is related to current activity at the department and how it may extend and complement it. Links to relevant activities are found on ConSeRNS: Strategic Research Initiative for Concurrent Security and Robustness for Networked Systems.

Assessment

Applicants will be evaluated by an international committee and rated according to qualifications both as associate professor, see Rules for Appointments to Professorships and Associate Professorships at UiO.

Requirements  and Qualifications

Primary assessment criteria are

  • The candidates must have a scientific track record that confirms their capacity to take up new and challenging issues. A strong record of publication in relevant areas of information security is required. 
  • Candidates should also be able to lead, conduct and collaborate in research projects. Experience in collaboration with industry is an advantage.
  • Experience in academic and administrative leadership is an advantage, and experience in the acquisition of research grants is a selection criterion.
  • Candidates should have teaching experience in information security and have a commitment to engage in undergraduate and graduate education and in mentoring and advising master and doctoral students.

Both potential shown in recent research and total scientific output will be emphasized in the evaluation.

The successful applicant must have a basic pedagogical qualification. Applicants who upon appointment are unable to document basic pedagogical competence must acquire this within the following two years, see: Rules for the assessment and weighting of pedagogical competence for appointments to permanent academic posts which include teaching duties.  

The University of Oslo is a multi-lingual environment, where prior knowledge of Norwegian is not a prerequisite. However, the appointee is expected within two years to learn enough Norwegian to be able to participate actively in all functions the position may involve. Fluency in both written and spoken English is a prerequisite.

As a part of the employment process the department can invite short-listed candidates for an interview and/or a trial lecture.

Salary

Pay Grade: (ltr 70-77, NOK 614 700 – 711 800 per year, depending on qualifications)
