Description of the subject area

The topic for the PhD position is communication infrastructures for smart and digitized products. Internet-of-Things and future products will consist of a physical part, a wired/wireless connectivity part complemented with product intelligence parts in the Cloud. The physical part could include mechanical components, sensors and actuators, as well as an on-board computer. The infrastructure part must provide secure, reliable and energy efficient communication between these parts. The PhD student will do research into authentication and access control for digitized products and how the communication system should maintain data consistency between parts. The research is part of a larger project on “Future factories in the Cloud. The PhD student will be hosted by the Communication Research Group.

Employment

The candidate will be employed by the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University. The position is 100% paid for a maximum of five years and includes departmental duties at a level of at most 20% (mainly teaching).

Requirements

The candidate should have, or is expected to receive in a near future, a Master of Science or equivalent in a field that is relevant to the research topic of the position. The candidate must have a strong background in computer science or computer engineering including skills in programming, good communication skills and excellent study results, as well as sufficient proficiency in oral and written English. Prior knowledge of Swedish is not required.
