INTRODUCTION
The beginning of the academic year 2015-16 will mark the opening of the seventeenth year of the Postgraduate Programme in Southeast European Studies. This period has seen the transformation of the area from a war zone to a region on its way to integration into the European Union. The multinational, multi-disciplinary Programme in Southeast European Studies was founded during the Kosovo crisis, and has been part of that transition. Created in 1999 as part of the Royaumont Process, in its first years the Programme was supported by the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe; it has since aimed at facilitating crossborder academic and scientific cooperation, bringing together students from all over the region and beyond, and promoting mutual understanding and good neighbourly relations. Today, it functions as an autonomous Postgraduate Programme of the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Athens.
SCOPE & OBJECTIVES
The Programme is addressed to graduates in the social sciences and humanities. Based on its interdisciplinary character, it aims at providing a thorough understanding of the key social, political, and economic issues of Southeastern Europe. It has an excellent student-teacher ratio (four to one), and a strong international character, actively encouraging the participation of students from around the world. In addition to its academic aims, the Programme offers a unique opportunity for students and professors with different backgrounds and experiences to spend an academic year in Athens, learning about Southeastern Europe with and from each other.
DURATION & LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
The duration of the programme of studies is twelve calendar months. The exclusive language of instruction and examination on the Programme is English. All assignments are completed in English.
ACCREDITATION
Master of Arts (MA) in Southeast European Studies (75 ECTS Credits).
PROGRAMME SYLLABUS
The programme of studies includes coursework and research. Two semesters of taught classes are followed by the research and writing of the postgraduate dissertation (from June to end of September).

DISSERTATION
Students are required to submit a thesis of 12,000-15,000 words (not including bibliography) on a topic directly concerned with Southeastern Europe, and in one of the academic disciplines covered in the Programme.
GUEST LECTURES
The Programme also offers a series of regular and special guest lectures on topics relevant to Southeast European studies. Guest lecturers include academics, politicians, diplomats, business people and journalists with immediate experience of the region and its problems.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The Programme receives up to twenty five students each year. Applicants should submit their application (post-stamped by mail or in person) from January 30 until June 15, 2015.
INTERVIEWS
The Programme’s Selection Committee reserves the right to call candidates for interviews.

The Programme’s teaching facilities and the Faculty’s Library are located in the Historic Centre of Athens, a few minutes walk from Syntagma Square and from the picturesque and popular neighbourhood of Plaka. The nearest Metro station, Monastiraki, is five hundred yards away.
TUITION FEES
The Programme charges tuition fees of € 2,100 payable in three instalments.
FEES WAIVER
Students who are citizens of specified Southeast European countries – i.e. Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo (under UNSC Resolution 1244) Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia – and who are not in receipt of a scholarship from any other source are eligible to apply for a fees waiver.
