Additional English language training

If you do not meet the English language requirements for direct entry to the International Foundation Year the Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) International Study Centre (ISC) offers an English Language Preparation (ELP) course.

Entry requirements

If you have an IELTS level of 4.0, or equivalent and want to study International Foundation Year, you will need at least one term of ELP. The course will improve your English language skills to the required IELTS level. Once you complete your ELP programme, and achieve the required grades, you progress to your programme at the LJMU ISC.

English for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies

If you are holding a conditional offer from LJMU and one of the conditions is to improve your English score, then the English for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies programme is ideal for you.

The programme is delivered in the International Study Centre and is offered over 6, 12, 20 or 30 weeks, depending on your level of English upon entry and the level required in your University offer.

Content

The programme is designed to improve your language proficiency at the same time as developing the skills required for successful undergraduate or postgraduate study at LJMU.

You will be introduced to the teaching and assessment approaches used in the University. You will be taught academic writing conventions, listening skills, grammar and vocabulary development, presentation techniques and seminar skills, as well as analytical and problem solving skills.

Assessment

Your performance will be managed through continual assessment and feedback. This will include monitoring your development through every aspect of the programme, from writing, reading and listening, to presentation and analytical skills.
