Cultural excursions and social events

The summer school has a busy social programme to help you make the most of your time in Leeds as well as further afield. All of the social activities listed below are included in the programme fee:

  • orientation activities
  • a pub quiz
  • sports socials
  • three full-day excursions, to York, Whitby and the Yorkshire Dales
  • a half-day excursion to Harewood House
  • a farewell dinner
  • a final two-night weekend trip to London (please note: the programme ends in London)

In addition to this, the summer school student social assistants organise various low-cost or free evening and weekend social activities in Leeds throughout the summer school. Two social assistants will live in the accommodation with you to provide support, knowledge of the local area and a friendly face.

Accommodation

As a summer school student, you will live in Henry Price, a hall of residence conveniently located on the University campus. You will have the privacy of your own room, but with a shared kitchen, bathroom and dining facilities you can socialise with other summer school students and make lifelong friends from around the world.

Cooking for yourself is a good way to keep costs down too. The kitchens have cooking facilities, but if you don’t feel like cooking for yourself there are lots of catering outlets on campus, so there’s plenty of choice.

You are expected to arrive at your allocated accommodation on Saturday 2 July and classes start Monday 4 July.
